NJ documentary family photography ยท session details
No posing. No matching outfits.
Real moments. No cheese required.
On the day
No posing
Nobody will tell you where to stand or when to smile. I’ll be somewhere nearby, quiet, waiting for the look you give each other when you think no one’s watching. (And yes, if you want one for the holiday card or grandma, we’ll get that too.)
No matching outfits
Wear the soft sweatshirt. The pajamas. Whatever your kids actually reach for. Your family isn’t a catalog, and it shouldn’t look like one.
No stressing
Somebody will refuse shoes. Somebody will need a snack, again. I’m a dad of two girls, so nothing here will surprise me, and honestly, that’s the good stuff. It all belongs in the story.
The big days will take care of themselves. I'm here for the Tuesdays.
The cereal on the counter. The hand on your arm. The way they run to you after school like it’s been a year. These are the ones that disappear, and the ones you’ll want most.
How it goes
First, we talk
No forms, no pressure. Just a conversation about the people you love and what a regular day looks like in your house.
Then, you live your day
Breakfast, the park, backyard chaos. Keep doing what you do. I’ll just be there, quietly, with a camera.
Later, you get to remember
Your gallery arrives and suddenly it’s all there: the laugh, the mess, the little things you’d already forgotten.

A few more things
Do I need to clean the house first?
Please don’t. A lived-in home is exactly what I’m after. A few toys on the floor are part of the story.
Will we be in the photos too?
Yes. You’re part of this family, and parents are so often the ones behind the camera. I’ll make sure you’re in the story too.
Where in New Jersey do you photograph families?
All around the state. Denville, and everywhere in between! If you’re not sure we’re close enough, just ask. I’ll come to you!
What's the difference between documentary and traditional family photography?
A traditional session is directed: posed, coordinated, usually at a chosen location. A documentary session follows your real day as it unfolds, so the photographs show how your family actually looks and feels, not how you stood for five minutes.
