How do you edit our images? Are they retouched?
All of the delivered images will be professionally edited. Editing means things like color correction, cropping and other minor adjustments that are made to make them look spectacular! Retouching is not typically part of this process and can be done to individual photos for a fee. Retouching is defined as altering body parts, taking out elements of the photo, removing or adding people or any major alteration of a photo. Retouching is quoted on a per-image basis.
You’re awesome! How can we book you right now?
To secure your date all you need is, a retainer equal to 33% of your package price and a signed contract, then you’re all set! And hey, you’re awesome too, I can’t wait to work with you!
How can you keep us organized? What is this timeline planning session?
Here’s where my theater experience comes into play. This is right in my wheelhouse. When you book me, I will give you an idea of what my typical timeline looks like. We will talk through all the details of your day, where to put the bulk of your coverage. Do you want me there til the very last song or would you prefer me to be at the salon while you’re getting hair and makeup done? (Or do you want me at both?) This will help when you’re talking to the makeup artist about when he/she should start or what time the flowers should arrive. About 6 months prior to your wedding, I send out a detailed questionnaire to help fill in many of those gaps, names of important people, who is in the family portraits, etc. Around the 3 month mark, we’ll meet to go over all those details and finalize the timeline. We’ll leave that meeting with a rough, but close to a final timeline that you can send out to whomever you feel needs it. (We will meet/chat plenty of times before then though!)
I made a pinterest board for my wedding, can I share that with you?
You sure can! I’m happy to take a look and discuss your preferences. However, I use a Pinterest board as a reference to get a sense of your style. I’m not out to re-create someone’s images, because your wedding is individually yours. Let’s create something together that other people will want to Pin!
What happens if you can’t photograph my wedding?
Knock on wood, this has never happened! But, life is unpredictable, and things happen. That being said, it would take a pretty extraordinary emergency for me to not shoot your wedding. There are no “sick days” for a wedding photographer. If I have to hire another assistant to help me with my bags and get through your day, that’s what I’ll do. But Brad, you say, what if it’s worse? If things are that bad where I physically can’t be at your day and doctors have to restrain me from leaving my hospital bed, I have a network of equally talented photographers where we all support each other and in times of emergency, jump at the chance to help make someone else’s day successful.
Do you backup your images?
150%! I’m a little nuts when it comes to backup, but it’s well-reasoned! After each wedding, I upload the images to my laptop, a multi-drive backup server, online, and a hard drive that goes into a fire safe. Yes, your wedding is that important to me!
Do you offer video?
At this point, my sole focus is providing you with beautiful still images. I am happy to give you some recommendations of videographers who do good work and work well with others.
How will we get our images? Will you send us a CD?
Do you own a Delorean to travel back in time? How old is your computer? Because most modern laptops don’t even have CD slots anymore, I deliver your images to you via a cloud-based service. You will get a link to an online gallery where you can download the photos to your computer.(If you really need a CD, that can be arranged!)
Can we come and meet you?
Of course! I honestly love meeting couples and hearing their story. Let’s pick a date and get some coffee!
I saw you click your shutter thousands of times during my wedding, will we get all those images?
After your wedding, I will go through all those thousands of images and get rid of all the ones where people are blinking, test shots, unflattering facial expressions, and anything else that is in that same realm. Rest assured that you are getting the best of the best!
How long does it take to get our photos?
Officially, 6-8 weeks. If I’m in the thick of wedding season, it can be a little crazy, so I like to give myself a buffer just in case. I typically also post a little teaser online the day after, that you’ll be able to tag and share if you like.
Do we get copyright?
This is probably the most common question I get. Being that I’m the creator, the copyright stays with me and is the industry standard. However, this is your wedding and you will have full printing and personal rights. That means you can print, post to social media, share with friends and family, all to your heart’s content! The only thing you can’t do is profit from my work, such as publishing or selling the images which is what the copyright protects.
I’m worried it’s going to rain (or snow!) on my wedding day! What do we do if that happens?
Nothing, except relax and let me handle it! Your venue will usually contact you about a backup plan. I’ve worked in most weather conditions and have learned to adapt on the fly. If you’re willing to brave the elements a little, we can grab some fun shots with an umbrella or two. Believe it or not, we can always make something out of nothing by finding interesting spots indoors. There are always options!
How many photos do we get?
Every wedding is different, and it depends on many factors including how many hours of coverage that you book, the size of your wedding and the locations of the ceremony and reception. In general, you can expect 700-900 final images.
Do you travel? How much do you charge?
I definitely have the travel bug and will absolutely travel anywhere for your wedding! That being said, if it’s more than a 2 hour drive, there may be a travel fee attached. Reach out and let’s chat!
Will you be the one photographing my wedding?
I am a one-man band! There are a lot of photographers who farm out their work or send associates, but if you book me, you get me! Because there’s only one of me and one of your wedding date, let’s get together soon to talk about the possibility of me photographing your wedding day.
Can we see a full wedding from start to finish?
Absolutely! Send me a message and I’d be happy to send you some complete wedding galleries.
You say you are a “Documentary Style Photographer.” What does that mean?
The formal definition of documentary photography is, ” A style of photographs that presents straightforward records of events, people, and places.” I think it’s important to be as unobtrusive as possible on your wedding day. You want a truthful storytelling of your day. My goal is not to create, but to document it. I don’t quite consider my style true photojournalism, because there are times where I will need to direct, but I want to be as hands off as possible!
